From the collection of a rug connosieur who is "down-sizing". Since the 17th century Kashan rugs have been woven on a special type of loom known as a "dar". Weavers make each knot using the Farsi (Persian) knot technique. Woven in highly intricate - multi hued floral and foliate patterns. This carpet features a central medallion on a dark, rich "midnight" blue ground with four deep red corner embellishments. Contained within an intricate border in red, blue, black, brown, green, and ivory.  Dates from the mid 20th century. Thirty two fine hand knots run a line per inch for a total of 1024 knots per square inch

 

Measures 54" wide x 95" Long (4' 5" x 7.9").

 

Overall condition is very good vintage. Including some surface dirt, and minor wear commensurate with age and use. There is an area of approximatley 12" long area on one end where the fringe is missing. Note:  this rug was in a home with pets prior and has not been cleaned. See photos for details.
