Beautiful pair of original gouache paintings by Clarence Basil Cuts The Rope. One shows a pair of of Canadian geese in flight above an autumnal landscape. The second again feature a pair of Canadian geese flying over a snowy, winter setting. Both are signed in the lower right with one dated "1978". Both were purchased together by the original owner in 1978. Directly from Clarence at his Lewistown, Montana studio. Each is displayed in matching wooden frames with glass inserts and card stock mats.
Each painting reveal measures 9.25" wide x 7.25" high.
With frame each measures 17" wide x 14"high x 1" deep.
Clarence Basil Cuts The Rope (1935 - 2000) was born in a log cabin in Hays, Montana. A registered member of the Gros Ventre Tribe, he received the name :Cuts TheRope" when he was caught attempting to steal Crow horses. His talent was first nurtured while a student at the Mission School. And later further developed at Haskell Junior College in Kansas. After serving in the U.S. Army he returned to Montana where he focused on painting and drawing. Over the following decades he became a highly esteemed painter (oil, watercolor pastel) and sculptor (bronzes). All of which celebrated his native culture and the beauty of his beloved Montana.
Both paintings are in excellent vintage condition with no paint loss or issues of note. Each have been roughly cut and glued into double mats which display some minor fading. Both placed in wooden frames with glass which are in very good vintage condition with minor "dings" and surface wear commensurate with age/use.
