Rare pair of matching mid-century Italian Chinoiserie faience elephant stools. Each elephant itself is elegantly formed of terra-cotta with fine details. Hand-painted details include diamond patterned surface over a lotus form saddle sitting upon each elephants back. Sides feature "saddle flaps" decorated with carnations and other patterns. Atop a base embellished with a trellis pattern. Each elephant measures 21" long x 10" wide x 21" high. Both are in excellent vintage condition with no cracks, chips, or structural issues of note. The glazed surface itself is crazed (crackled) which creates a charming patina. This pair is truly unique and incredibly charming.
