Kunio Kaneko is considered a specialist in the traditional technique of Japanese woodblock printmaking. Born in Toyko (1949) Kunio graduated from Masaushino University. Where he studied under two renowned modern Japanese printmakers Joichi Hoshi and sosaku hanga artist - Sasajima Kihei. For many years he has created a series of woodblock prints focused on mountains. Including Mount Fuji and Mount Chausu-dake. 

 

This woodblock was created in 1996. Signed and dated by the artist himself. Number 22 of a run of 200. Purchased at the highly esteemed Kanda's B-O-Q Gallery in Tokyo in the late 90's. As per labels affixed on reverse. Black wooden frame and paper board mat with beveled brown interior edge.

 

Wood frame measures 18.5" wide x 14" high x 1" deep.

Image only measures 12" wide x 9" high.

 

Appears to be in excellent vintage condition with no visible folds, foxing, creases, rips, fading, or issues of note. However we have not removed from the frame. Therefore we cannot confirm whether the framing, mat, and materials used therein are acid free. Nor if the non-glare glass is museum quality UV filtering. See photos for details.
