Since the 17th Century Portuguese artisans have been hand-painting faience ceramics. The "Forest" pattern features a whimsical mix of deer, peacocks, and rabbits amidst a range of intricate foliage, bridges, "follies", and castles. As interpreted by each artist - no two are alike yet they all replicate 17th century originals. This lidded rectangular box appears to have never been used. It features vignette on it's top surrounded by multiple borders on its sides. Set atop four "paw" feet. Painted marks on back read "147 HAND PAINTED XVII CENTURY MADE IN PORTUGAL C.P. Affixed sticker below reads "HANDPAINTED REPRODUCTION OF XVII CENTURY MADE IN PORTUGAL".
 
Measures 6.5" wide x 3.75" deep x 3.5" high.
