This is a hand-carved apple shaped box was crafted in the Florence workshop of Guglielmo Pecorini. Burned stamp on bottom stating "G Pecorini" and "Made In Italy." Box measures 4" in diameter x 6.25" H. Considered one of Italy's mid-century modernist leaders - Guglielmo Pecorini's innovative furniture designs were lauded worldwide in the late thirties. After World War Two his work was featured in the seminal Italian modern design exhibit - "Italy At Work" staged at the Brooklyn Museum in 1950. Concurrently an "Italy At Work" shop was housed in Lord & Taylor's Fifth Avenue flagship. Offering a selection of goods including this G. Pecorini box. Comparable hand-carved wooden Pecorini boxes currently sell for as much as $3500 on other websites. Making this box both a unique treasure and phenomenal value.
