This pair of "Foo" or "Shishi" were finely hand-carved out of Shoushan or "Longevity" stone by Chinese artisans sometime in the early 20th century.. The Japanese believe "Shishi" dogs keep evil sprits away. Whereas the Chinese believe "Foo" dogs guard family wealth and social status. This pair was purchased by a collector in China sometime in the 1990's.

Each measures 4" wide x 4" deep x 3.5" high.
