The Belleek Pottery was founded in 1857 by John Caldwell. Its purpose was to provide employment for his tenants in County Fermanagh, Ireland tenants during the infamous famine. Using local minerals they developed delicate yet strong Parian Porcelain. Along with proprietary glazes that are coveted worldwide to this day.

In 1870 Belleek artisans created "Crouching Venus". This figure was based on an 1786 English copy a 3rd century Hellenist sculpture by Daedalsas. It portrays Venus Aphrodite preparing for her bath. This first "Black Mark" Belleek version was produced through 1919.

In 1991 "Crouching Venus" was reintroduced as a limited edition by the Belleek Collector's Society. The piece shown (and sold) here is marked number four of a total of seventy produced. It displays a red "Collectors" mark on it's base. And the inscribed signature of "Arthur Elliott" was the only employee in the 20th century to produce "Crouching Venus".

Measures 17" high x 10" wide x 7" deep.
