Beautiful 1980's abstract impressionist landscape in a range of gold, ochre, yellow, brown, and black. By Robert Baranet (1925- 2001) renowned Abstract Impressionist who studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Barnes Foundation. From the sixties through the eighties he "earned his keep" by painting portraits at his studio in New York's Hotel des Artistes. However his personal passion were the landscapes he created while at his Connecticut barn studio or while traveling worldwide.
"After Sunset" is dated 1987. It captures the beauty of the rugged Arizona terrain just after the sun dips below the horizon.. Signed "Baranet" in the lower right corner with "7" indicating 1987. Handwritten title in pencil on back wooden stretcher. Comes with a certificate of authenticity from the artists daughter. Provenance being that this work has been in the family's possession since the artist's death.
This piece is framed by an original hand-crafter frame by Carl Laughlin (1921-2012). An artist himself. - Laughlin custom crafted unique carved and gilded frames in the tradition of Badura and Harer.. Based in Philadelphia - he was the framer of choice for many artists in the "New Hope School". Today his frames sell for more than the price of many paintings alone.
The Baranet painting itself measures 24" wide x 20" high.
Within Laughline frame in total measures 30" wide x 26" high x 2" deep.
The painting itself is in excellent condition with no issues of note. The hand-crafted gilded wooden frame is in very good vintage condition. Structurally sound, it's finish was purposefully distressed and patinated. by Laughlin. Original linen liner has some subtle stains. See photos for details.
