Eric Norstad (1924-2013) was a highly esteemed Marin County California potter during the second half the 20th century. This rare set of six of dinner/charger plates feature early, hand inscribed "EN" marks on their backsides. Which date them to the 1960's. A period during which the artist studied under and thus was highly influenced by Shoji Hamada. The founder of the mid-century modern Japanese "Mingei" ceramics movement.

Each of the six extra large dinner plates/chargers were crafted using a unique stoneware clay mix developed by the artist himself. Hand-formed on a potters wheel, they were glazed by Eric Norstad. Decorated with Shumi-e stye brushwork in slightly different yet similar abstract organic patterns. Brown and rust on a neutral "oatmeal" ground. Then fired to 2500 Fahrenheit for twenty four hours. The end result being smoothly finished durable pieces that are highly resistant to scratching, chipping, or cracks.

All of the six plates in this set measure approximately 11" in diameter x 1" high. Hand made - they may vary very slightly. All are in excellent vintage condition. With no chips, cracks, "slivers", crazing, glaze loss, or issues of note.

Be sure to check out our other available for sale chargers by Eric Norstad. All of which were frequently used together by the original hipster owner when entertaining her family and friends.
