Eric Norstad (1924-2013) was a highly esteemed Marin County California potter during the second half the 20th century. This pair of dinner/charger plates feature early, hand inscribed "EN" marks on their backsides. Which dates them to the 1960's. A period during which the artist studied under and thus was highly influenced by Shoji Hamada. The founder of the mid-century modern Japanese "Mingei" ceramics movement. 
 
This pair of extra large dinner plates/chargers were crafted using a unique stoneware clay mix developed by the artist himself. Hand-formed on a potters wheel, they were glazed by Eric Norstad. Decorated with Shumi-e stye brushwork in an abstract organic pattern. Brown and rust on a neutral "oatmeal" ground.. Then fired to 2500 Fahrenheit for twenty four hours. The end result being smoothly finished durable pieces that are highly resistant to scratching, chipping, or cracks. 
 
Each of the plates in this pair measure approximately 11" in diameter x 1" high. As both are hand made - they may vary very slightly.
 
Both are in excellent vintage condition. With no chips, cracks, "slivers", crazing, glaze loss, or issues of note.
