Post World War Two - Los Angeles potter Newell B. Stevens developed his "Lotus Pattern" from plaster casts of lotus he had gathered from Echo Park Lake. Subsequently the Newell Stevens Pottery produced hand-made "Lotus" ceramics that were sold nationally via high-end retailers. Today Newell Stevens ceramics are highly prized and considered rare. Especially when glazed in their turquoise/aqua hue.

This set of six "Lotus" salad plates were created by Newell Stevens sometime in the mid-twentieth century. Each exhibits subtle nuances and variations that only come with hand made ceramics. And feature sinuous incised leaf veins emanating out from their centers. All ending in a "ruffled" edge.

All six plates measure approximately 8.25" diameter x 1" high. And are in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, scratches, or crazing. Unmarked on their reverse - each exhibit kiln stilt marks. See photos for details.

Be careful not to confuse these plates with Metlox factory produced "Lotus" versions. Which were made after the Newell Stevens Pottery closed their doors in 1973.
